  1. With a project manager and managers recruited from the private sector, the Nagoya City New Business Support Centerprovides comprehensivesupport to entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized companies which are launching new businesses.The Center offers a consultation service easily available either at the center or at the client’s office, a business analysis service with experts dispatched on an ongoing basis, a variety of training courses, and publications such as the Guidebook on Support for NewBusinesses. It also runs the Nagoya Business-matching Project offering business feasibility study services for new products and business-matching services in the rapidly-growing Nagoya to help them open up new markets.

  2. The Nagoya Small & Medium Enterprise Promotion Center offers small and medium-sized companies in the city a variety of management consultation,training, and ISO certification supportservices to help them reinforce their management base and revitalize their operations. The city also offers various financing plans to facilitate financing for, and promote the growth and development of, small andmedium-sized companies in the city.

  3. To actively promote and support collaboration among industry, academia and government for creating new industries, the city organizes various study groups and lecture meetings to help enhance communications. The city also runs joint R&D projects utilizing the subsidy plans of the national government,such as the Knowledge Cluster Initiative.

  4. The city has business incubators to train entrepreneurs starting new businesses and to assist small and medium-sized companies planning to
    launch into new fields. In April 2006, COMBi Honjin opened in a closed-down elementary school building to support entrepreneurs willing to launch community-based businesses.

  5. In Shidami,MoriyamaWard, the Nagoya Science Park is now being constructed. T he R&D Park comprises three zones (A, B and C) and an area to help the public experience the world of high technology.

  6. The Nagoya Municipal Industrial Research Institute helps small and medium-sized companies to up grade their production technologies and conduct R&D. The support services cover industrial technologies in the domains of machinery, materials, chemistry and electronics.
